Description

In this 6-week embroidery course you will get lots of time to learn different free hand embroidery stitches. Whether you like to embroider a flower, letters, or other shapes, we have you covered. This will be your weekly moment to unwind. Enjoy meeting new people while creating something pretty and learning new skills. The course is suitable for complete beginners, but you can also join as more experienced stitcher to meet fellow embroidery lovers.

What you’ll learn in this course

  • During this course you will learn how to embroider on different clothes and fabrics.
  • Every session we’ll focus on a different stitch. In some sessions we’ll cover 2. And then you’ll get all the time needed to practice before we jump to the next.
  • We will at least cover the following stitches (but depending on the group we may also cover a few other surprise stitches):
    • Satin stitch
    • French knot
    • Chain stitch
    • Back stitch
    • Stem stitch
    • Long and short stitch
    • Blanket stitch
    • Fishbone stitch
    • Loop stitch

We’ll also cover different tips and tricks:

    • How to start stitching without knots
    • Recommended materials to stitch on different fabrics. You’ll get to know what works best for which fabric.
    • How to transfer a pattern to your fabric with Solufix
    • How to transfer a pattern to your fabric with transfer paper
    • How to draw your pattern directly on the fabric

Materials:

  • Bring your own garments! Bring your own hat, bag, cap, blouse, or t-shirt that you like to embroider. You can even bring a pair of shoes if you like. We recommend that you bring at least one item made with tightly woven fabric, and one item with a knitted fabric.
  • We work with different threads during the sessions ranging from embroidery floss to embroidery wool.
  • Embroidery materials used during the workshop are included in this price. If you’d like to continue practising at home, you’re welcome to buy extra supplies in the studio.

  • And we’ll have a few yummy snacks

Location:

Studio Koekoek, Weesperstraat 100 in Amsterdam.

This is close to the “Magere Brug” and the “Holocaust Name Monument” in the centre of Amsterdam. Metro station Weesperplein or Waterlooplein.

About Studio Koekoek’s workshop

We love to welcome you in our studio in Amsterdam. We’re working every day with textiles and like to share our enthusiasm with you. You’ll learn in small groups, so you’ll get lots of help with questions.

Workshop cancellation policy

In the unfortunate event that you cannot join your booked event, you are welcome to resell or give your ticket to somebody else who is able to attend. If you wish to cancel your ticket, we adhere to the following policy:

  • Cancellations made more than 1 month before the first day of the course receive a full refund.
  • Cancellations made between 14 and 31 days before the first day of the course receive a 50% refund.
  • Cancellations made less than 14 days first day of the course are not refunded.
  • No-shows are not refunded.
